Challenges and Solutions of Water based Ink Defoamers

Water based ink is widely used in packaging printing, food packaging, label printing and other fields due to its environmental protection and low VOC (volatile organic compound) characteristics. However, due to the high surface activity of the water-based system itself, foam is easily generated in the production and use process, which affects the printing quality and production efficiency. Therefore, the rational selection of defoamers has become one of the key technologies in the water-based ink industry.   

Although defoamers are widely used in water-based inks, there are still many challenges in actual production, such as poor compatibility, insufficient durability, printing defects, etc. How should we solve these problems when we encounter them?

First, we need to select the appropriate type of defoamer, optimize the adding method of defoamer, dilute it with ethylene glycol or water (1:5), then add it slowly, and then combine it with the foam sensor to achieve accurate control. At the same time, improve storage stability, control storage temperature reasonably, and avoid temperatures that are too high or too low.   

Of course, the application of water-based ink defoamers requires targeted measures based on specific issues. In the future, with the development of new materials and intelligent technologies, defoamers will evolve towards greater efficiency and environmental friendliness.
